Hotel marketing was to be undertaken throughout North America by an organisation built up from a 51% holding in a New York agency, the Transair Marketing Development Corporation, into full subsidiaries with facilities in New York for the USA and Toronto for the Canadian market.

Two hotels were eventually built on St. Lucia - the Halcyon Days hotel came about when in 1968 Halcyon Hotels Ltd, a company incorporated under St Lucian law, obtained a large area of land from the St. Lucian Government near Hewanorra International Airport on a 75 year lease. When complete, the three-story building - the maximum height allowed by local planning regulations - would have 750 rooms and a self-contained leisure complex that included a golf course and stables. To understand how corporately complex things could get in the Court Line Group, Halcyon Hotels Ltd became a subsidiary of Halcyon Hotels (Nassau) Ltd, which itself was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Carribean Tankers Ltd!

The hotel opened for business in June 1971, but with a much lower room occupancy rate than predicted by the North American marketing organisation, resulting in an immediate trading loss. To make the facility more attractive, an aqua-centre was built at the cost of £100,000 but, due to unsatisfactory beach and sea conditions at the Halcyon Days location, this had to be situated a few miles away on the opposite side of the island. Two 65 foot long motor-yachts were purchased to enhance the aqua-centre, the m.v. Halcyon Breeze and the m.v. Sailfish, but it was soon discovered that the jetty built at the aqua-centre was unsuitable for berthing these vessels!
